Combover No More

Well, crap. I had this entire post written, and, thanks to the "genius" of my iPhone, I accidentally deleted it. So here goes round #2...if it seems a little rushed and flat, you'll know why.

Marshall got his first hair cut today! Why, you may ask, does this baldy need a trim?

...because he had a baby combover, that's why! He had this 4-inch lock of hair behind his ear that reminded me a lot of my Grandpa Woodling's 'do in the 80s. With that and the scruff over his ears, we figured it would be good to spruce him up a bit for his big First Birthday party this weekend.

He did a fantastic job! He only squirmed a little and didn't shed a single tear, unlike his big brother Miles' first haircut.

Marshall is a big boy in more ways than one. He is getting to be pretty good at walking with help. He wants to walk everywhere that he can - his little black Chuck Taylors are getting worn out! He's down to holding on with one hand now. Marshall also is pretty much on to big boy food now and will start to move away from bottles soon. He gets really mad when he doesn't have the same food as the rest of the family, and he insists on having a spoon or fork just like the big people.

Here he is a while back, with his walking toy:

Miles is also growing so quickly. He continues to love pre-school and is learning so much. I'm not sure if I'm just a proud mama, but I would say that he is "pre-reading" now. He recognizes simple words like "go" and can take a guess in context with the pictures as to what some words are. The other day he guessed correctly when he said, "Does that sign say Applebee's?". Now, it's true that they do have an apple on their sign, but he's only only eaten at Applebee's about twice in his life. If he had correctly guessed what the McDonald's sign said, that would be a completely less-impressive story.

He also loves to sing and dance. Here are his "moves like Jagger":

We had a fun time a few weekends ago in Lexington, celebrating cousin Natalie's baptism. Other than infecting the entire Kolb family with strep throat, it was great bonding with the cousins!

Okay, computer's getting ready to die, and I'll be damned if I lose another post. More from Marshall's birthday to come!

Great pics - I am not surprised that Miles is starting to pre-read. I thought he might be doing it even sooner. I remember once when the boys were about 2-2.5 yrs old and the three of us were waiting in the car for their dad to come out of the "milkshake" store. They ask if that truck said Budwieser . Unfortunately yes it did. Then I started asking them if they knew what this sign and that sign said. Each time they knew! I knew then and there I was going to be in trouble keeping up with them.
